Carbon Burn-Out is a technology and process in which residual carbon in fly ash is combusted to produce a consistent low-carbon, high-quality pozzolan. As a side benefit, ammonia on the ash is reduced to non-detectable levels.
The presence of activated carbon in fly ash can interfere with fresh concrete’s ability to entrain the desired amount of air. Boral’s RestoreAir® process uses a liquid reagent to pre-treat fly ash, before delivery to customers, to neutralize activated carbon’s air entrainment.
